American singer Kelela Mizanekristos has released her second studio album, receiving widespread critical acclaim for both its breath-taking ballads and languid lyricism.
Coming six years after the release of her debut album, Take Me Apart, which was lauded as one of the best albums of 2017, Raven began as the singer’s reaction to feelings of loneliness working in the dance music genre.
Raven includes collaborators such as Asmara from Fade to Mind’s NGUZUNGUZU, Philly DJ and producer LSDXOXO, German ambient duo OCA, and Toronto DJ BAMBII.
The album is a celebration of Black futurist art and electronic music sharing inspiration with a wide range of icons from Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, and Sun Ra to Janelle Monáe, Solange, Beyoncé, Drexciya and Aaliyah.
The album was supported by five singles being released in the lead-up to its launch – Washed Away, Happy Ending, On the Run, Contact and Enough for Love.
The 15-track 62-minute album is now available on all major streaming platforms.
