Peacock’s Poker Face, a murder mystery comedy series, is receiving rave reviews from TV critics, who say that this is the network’s first truly great original series in a while.

Knives Out and Glass Onion creator Rian Johnson has put together a show full of intrigue and great storytelling combined with an ensemble of knockout guest stars.

Poker Face chronicles the adventures of Charlie Cale, played by Orange is the New Black actress Natasha Lyonne. The industrious former card queen, who may not be a cop but definitely has lie-detecting powers, turns into a blacklisted pariah in poker-playing circles. She is happy with that though as she spends her days waiting tables at a local casino run by Sterling Frost Jr, played by Adrien Brody.

But when her good friend and co-worker is mysteriously declared dead one day, it sets her sixth sense ringing and she finds herself pulled into the world of amateur detective work while also fleeing to save her life.

In regards to how this idea came about, Rian had shared with media that ‘it’s kind of a throwback to Magnum PI or Rockford Files or Columbo.”

It just goes to show, people love a good murder mystery when done right and with Rian at the helm and a star-studded cast, how can it go wrong?
