Gulf Weekly The game’s puzzling story

In the mid-80s, a video game was born and over the years it grew into a pop culture favourite selling hundreds of millions of copies and known by some publications as ‘one of the greatest games ever made’.

Hence, it’s only fair that this game’s origin story would be put on the big screen.

The game that features falling blocks and tends to live rent-free in a lot of people’s minds is called Tetris and was created by Alexey Pajitnov.

The new film, which was released by Apple TV+, is directed by Jon S Baird and written by Noah Pink. The story features Taron Egerton as Henk Rogers, a video game designer and salesman who plays Tetris and almost immediately believes it to be the perfect game. His wife Akemi (played by Ayane Nagabuchi) owns Bullet-Proof Software, and Henk decides to put up everything he has to help Tetris become a worldwide phenomenon. This journey will put him up against people with much more money and influence than he does, including entrepreneur Robert Maxwell (played by Roger Allam), his son Kevin Maxwell (Anthony Boyle), and the man willing to double-cross all of them for the rights, Robert Stein (Toby Jones).

So let the blocks fall where they may and enjoy the ride.
