The Swedish electro-indie duo known to fans as Icona Pop recently revealed that boredom during the pandemic’s lockdown is what heightened their creativity and lead them to write their new album.
It has been 10 years since Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo had launched their first album in 2013 called This is … Icona Pop. Their latest single I Want You, launched in February, is simply a taste of what’s to come musically from the global chart-topping team as they put the finishing touches on their forthcoming new album.
Icona Pop collaborated on the single with Grammy-nominated Galantis.
Aino shared that they got back to what they love during what was the quietest period they had ever experienced in 10-plus years. That’s why they find it so crazy to have made such danceable music. They felt the need to do something more up-tempo.
Caroline also added that they were scared about what was going to happen to their career but this simply drove them further.
During the pandemic, they kept themselves and their fans entertained by hosting ‘rave spa’ livestreams online and Caroline insists their lockdown DJ sessions inspired their new music.
