Avatar 3 is nearly complete after almost four years of production, the film’s director James Cameron has revealed.
During the 2024 Saturn Awards, Screen Rant interviewed James to get an update on the highly-awaited film and this is what he had to say: “The movie is pretty much in the can. We’re shooting pick-ups on (Avatar) 3, which is just filling in the last two or three per cent. But, we’ve got about a quarter of movie 4 in the can, and I’ll need every second between now and then to get it done.”
With new technology on the scene, he added that this may be the best Avatar yet.
Plot details of the film remain unknown, but it is expected to see the continuation of the war between the Na’vi and humanity for control of the alien planet Pandora, which was the storyline in Avatar 2. Fans may also see returning characters, along with newcomers like David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh.
According to reports, Avatar 3 is expected to be released on December 19, 2025, three years after Avatar: The Way of Water hit theatres on December 16, 2022.
The first Avatar, released in 2009, broke multiple box office records in various markets, becoming the highest-grossing movie of all time. Since its release, the film has grossed a staggering $2.923 billion.
