GRAMMY-WINNING indie rock singer Joshua Michael Tillman aka Father John Misty’s sixth studio album Mahashmashana (Sanskrit for great cremation ground) drops tomorrow.

The eight-track project runs for 50 minutes. The songwriter has become known for making long songs, his longest track yet entitled Leaving LA (2017) lasting 13 minutes.

“I’ll end up writing these huge, unstructured things, pages and pages, almost like an epic poem. From that I’ll get, say, three interminable songs. And downstream from that, I start strip-mining those three songs for parts to use in other songs. It seems chaotic, and really unfocused, but there’s an internal logic to it,” he said in an interview.

The artist’s musical career began when an unfinished creation of his found its way to singer and songwriter Damien Jurado, who Joshua ended up opening for at live shows. There, he distributed CDs that would later become his 2004 album I Will Return, released under his real name.

Eight albums later, Joshua debuted as Father John Misty dissatisfied with his older material, and released Fear Fun in 2012 under the stage name.

Joshua is also known for working with mainstream artists including Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and Florence and The Machine.
