I have never really been much of an environmentalist.
Not because I’m not interested — on the contrary I think it’s a vital part of our survival as a species — but because, like the majority of the human race, it’s not something I often think about beyond not littering and remembering to turn the lights out when I leave a room.
With this is mind, I think it’s great that an environmental expert has put forward a BD10 million proposal for 100 artificial coral reefs to be placed around Bahrain’s waters. Even better is his proposal that the very people who are responsible for all the land reclamation that is causing the threat to sea life fund it. Considering there is BD1.5 billion (yes that’s with a ‘b’) worth of projects in the making at the moment, BD10 million is a very small price to pay to make sure the waters around Bahrain remain healthy and populated.
