(Tony Blair finally announces he will quit in 12 months but will not set a definite date, as factional fights jeopardise Chancellor Gordon Brown’s succession to both party leadership and the Prime Minister’s post)

Soap opera fans keep your eyes on the TV
An all-new season sitcom you’re set to see
It’s a British production and the cast will be
The British PM and men of his Ministry
Casting was a problem – several preferred to quit
So the storyline had to be altered a bit.
Blair’s the scriptwriter he plays the star part
He’s produces, directs too – that makes him smart
Called ‘The long month’s journey into No 10’
It’s intriguing no one knows who’ll make it or when
Since producer, director, scriptwriter are the same
The episodes will be rib-tickling game
Just how many episodes are there going to be?
Just how many changes in the cast will we see?
The star’s said to be a weak link in the show
But he hasn’t scripted when he will go
So wait till you hear the star’s stepping down
And the part may be played by Gordon Brown
But the script says “may be” so poor G B
As the successor there’s no guarantee
For from the cast a clamour did start
That all should audition for the star part
So keep on watching, like Larry King we say
There’s more to come folks, don’t go away
