Thanks to prison guidelines on overcrowding, Nicole Richie was released from her four days jail term after spending just 82 minutes behind bars.
According to the guidelines, when overcrowding occurs, non-violent female inmates whose sentence is less than 30 days, are released within 12 hours. In Nicole’s case, she was processed (fingerprinted and photographed) and then released without even seeing the inside of a prison cell. I’ve made no secret of how silly I thought the whole four day sentence was and I’ve even, in the past, mentioned that I felt sorry for her being sentenced to any time at all but the fact remains that she admitted to the crime she was charged with and should have to pay the price just like her on-off best friend and Simple Life co-star Paris Hilton. The fact that she was able to request the prison she was to spend her time in and that her request was granted despite its overcrowding turns the whole circus into a complete fiasco. You have to wonder if the same would have been the case for someone who wasn’t the daughter of a singing legend.
