Victory Heights Golf Residential and Development, the joint venture between Arcapita, the Bahrain-based investment bank, and Dubai Sports City, has announced that the golf course contractor, Septech Emirates, has officially handed over The Dunes golf course, the 18-hole signature course designed by world golfing champion, Ernie Els.
As a result of the hand-over, Troon Golf, a leading player in luxury-brand golf course management, marketing and operations, will commence full pre-launch maintenance operations prior to the official opening at the end of the year.
“We are extremely proud of the results and we believe The Dunes will be one of the world’s most exciting and challenging courses,” said Yasser Abdulla, general manager, Victory Heights.
Septech Emirates will continue to work under the supervision of Troon Golf for several weeks in order to complete minor elements including bunker sand placement and landscape works.
Troon Golf will now take over operations of more than 350,000 sqm of Bermuda grass fairways and rough areas, over 12,000 sqm of Tifeagle Greens, some 3,200m of drainage piping, 283 draining pits, 92 bunkers and 9km of concrete interlock tile cart path.
As the course nears its official opening, operations are gearing up with over 50 employees expected to be in place by October.
Recent appointments include, the superintendent, Brian Hampson, who has joined from Arizona and the general manager, Thomas Rubi, who was with Monte Rei in Portugal. Both officials are now on the ground in Dubai and moving The Dunes operations forward.
The Dunes golf course is set in among 28 hectares of rolling dunes and native vegetation and combines a links-style course with traditional classic-era design.
The world-class standard of play will be further complemented by the Butch Harmon School of Golf, the first such academy outside the US, and a luxury Mediterranean-style golf clubhouse.
As the focal point of the exclusive Victory Heights villa community, The Dunes will provide residents not only with a first class sporting and recreational facility, but also with a dramatic backdrop of undulating greenery, idyllic lakes and lush landscaping.
