Bahraini artist Khalid Farhan will hold an exhibition on March 8 at Abdulla Al Zayed House in Muharraq.
The two-week event, marking the International Women's Day (IWD) celebrations which fall on March 8, is part of the Spring of Culture Festival 2008.
The exhibition will feature 22 abstract sculptures of women made from wood and bronze.
"Every year on the International Women's Day, women from all around the world unite together in calling for their human, social and civil rights. I wanted to do something that shows my support and appreciation for these women," said Mr Farhan.
"The sculptures of women I will be displaying in my exhibition show different characters of women from around the world. I wanted to create something very special and unique in my field and they are all made of wood and bronze.
"I chose wood because it is a material related to our Bahraini culture and bronze is another material which is very strong and lasts forever."
He considers the scientist "Freud" the key to his sculpture works since he is inspired by Freud's vision which state that the straight lines stand for the man and the lenient (wavy) lines for the woman.
Mr Farhan is characterised by his abstract style and the simplicity of the idea impression.
The exhibition will be held under the patronage of under-secretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence and Bahrain Arts Society honorary president Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
It will be open and free to the public from 9am to 1pm and 4pm to 9pm.
IWD was instigated in 1908 when 15,000 women marched through the streets of New York demanding shorter working hours, better pay and voting rights.
It has grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration across developed and developing countries alike and a number of events are taking place.
While there are many large-scale initiatives, a rich and diverse fabric of local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women's craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more.
