THEY'LL be plenty of fizz on and off the court as a new band of cheerleaders get the crowd warmed up during an international netball tournament which starts on Friday.

Twenty teams from around the Gulf and one high-ranking 'invitational team' from England will compete at this year's Riffa Views 22nd annual Inter-Gulf Netball Championships.

In addition, the Highland Games will also take place at the Rugby Club tomorrow. Both events are expected to draw huge crowds of participants, spectators and supporters from the local community.

As well as supplying water and soft drinks to the 300 netball players over the two-day tournament, official beverage sponsor Coca Cola is sponsoring the Bahrain Junior Netball Players who will be known as the 'Coca Cola Girls' over the weekend.

Half of the girls will act as helpers over the weekend, assisting the organisers with score-keeping and other duties. The other half will step out as cheerleaders.

The Coca Cola Cheerleaders will perform a special dance routine at the opening ceremony and again throughout the weekend. They will also cheer on the Bahrain A squad during their initial 10 matches on the first day of the competition.

The Coca Cola Cheerleaders have been provided with specially designed uniforms for the weekend and will perform to the Carl Wolff song, Butterfly.

The Riffa Views Inter-Gulf Netball Championships, which is being organised and hosted by the Bahrain Netball League, will take place between 9.30am - 5.30pm on March 7 and between 9.30am - 2.45pm on March 8.
