'Pro mod' champion Ali Aryan has rejoined the all-Bahraini drag team Popeye Racing, said owner Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Partnering up with leading driver Khaled Mohammed, who has excelled in past drag racing seasons, the team aims to give other racers a run for their money.
At a press conference, Shaikh Abdulla said that he was confident that the team, now including two of the top drag racing drivers, would be bringing in positive results from national and regional championships.
He also added that he was proud of the calibre of racing that has been seen during the drivers' performances throughout the season so far and that this can only get better.
He also thanked the Bahrain Drag Racing Club for making this season a great success and wished participants in the National Drag Racing Championship as well as the Popeye Racing team the very best.
Shaikh Abdulla expressed his delight at having two of the strongest drivers, Aryan and Mohammed aboard his team. He said that the two can only go from strength-to-strength to achieve his, and their, personal goal of making it to the top in their 'pro mod' category. He also added that the pairing of these two drivers would make their team virtually unbeatable in the upcoming round of the National Drag Racing Championship as well as other regional championships such as the one set to take place in the UAE.
Aryan told journalists during the press conference, which was held on the drag strip at BIC, that he was excited to be back and looked forward to a positive season with Popeye Racing. He added that his return came after negotiations with the team management, led by Shaikh Abdulla, to whom he was thankful and appreciative.
Aryan revealed that he would be making his comeback aboard his Camaro '69 which has seen him through several wins and victories in the past. Having raced as part of the Popeye Racing outfit in 2005, and part of 2006, he added that he looked forward to making top times and greater victories, once again, across the Gulf.
