Reef Island, previously known as Lulu Island, is a man-made island being built on the coast of Manama. The BD450 million ($1.2 billion) freehold development project will cover an area of 579,000 sqm near the Pearl roundabout.

As well as being close to Abraj Al Lulu and Bahrain Financial Harbour (BFH), Reef Island is only 15 minutes from the airport, five minutes from the business district and just a few minutes from the Financial Harbour and central Manama.

Reef Island is being designed in the shape of the number nine and will contain 39 residential buildings with a total of 1,217 apartments with waterfront or lagoon views. It will also have, 49 beach villas, 65 individually designed sea-view villas and a 250-room five-star hotel and spa.

With its luxurious designs, spacious parks and even an aquarium, Reef will be an island paradise complete with modern amenities and infrastructure.

The project is a joint venture between the Bahrain government and the Mouawad Group for Real Estate Development Company. The development was designed by Australian-based Spowers and Pentago. The first phase of Reef Island is scheduled to be completed in early 2009 and the second by the end of 2010.

Marina Reef is a luxurious seaside community, built in the heart of Reef Island, consisting of a mix of one and two bedroom apartments. The front apartments boast views of the marina while the back apartments feature sea views.

Porta Reef is the first freehold property to be available to buyers on Reef Island. The BD34 million project includes a trio of luxurious residential towers with two and three bedroom apartments, as well as six premium penthouse units.

Venice Promenade is also located in Reef Island and has a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments with a contemporary Far Eastern feel located along a lush ribbon of parkway overlooking the water and Manama.
