A SERIES of warm-up races are planned for runners who want to take part in the Bahrain Cross Island race and the AZREK Bahrain Half Marathon.
The Chevron Grand Prix Championship, organised by Bahrain Road Runners (BRR), begins on Friday and features three distance races to be run on consecutive Fridays.
This week's event will be 5km, it will be followed by a 10-km run on November 14 and a 15-km race on November 21.
All three races will start at the Al Ghous Corniche located between the two bridges connecting Manama and Muharraq and runners must participate in all three distances to qualify for a prize in their age group.
BRR chairman Adnan Al Qassab told GulfWeekly the championship will prepare runners for the 17-km Bahrain Cross Island race on December 12 followed by the 21.1-km AZREK Bahrain half marathon on January 23.
He said: "This race will build up to our 31st half marathon. I find that running a half marathon is for self-satisfaction and the feeling of achieving something great. Once you run one you will always do another.
"We are a 31-year-old club that falls under the umbrella of the Bahrain Athletics Association. We have been the official organisers for road races and cross country races since 1996, joining together to build something that will last and keep people active.
"We usually have more than 90 runners and we are very much looking forward to the events."
Interested participants aged over 16 are welcome to take part in the Chevron Grand Prix Chamionship. Entrance is BD3 for BRR members and BD10 for non-members. Registration can be carried out at the venue prior to the first run.
