DHL and Riffa Views 1 claimed the honours last Saturday in the 12th annual AMH Island Classic Charity Golf Tournament played on the private golf course of His Majesty King Hamad in Saffriya.

Seventeen teams were in the fray on the third and final day of this exciting event which saw DHL clinch the championship division and Riffa Views bag the premier division.

DHL, who scored 54.5 points on the first day, were the team with the lowest score overall in the championship division which was open for all teams with a handicap average of less than 6.0.

In second place overall were Al Osra 4 team (55 points) of Mike Eastwood, Ian Moir, Robert Wakefield and Dick Potter while third place overall was Bahrain Confidential.

In the premier flight, none of the teams managed to beat the mark of 54.5 by Riffa Views 1 on day one.

Riffa Views 1, captained by Richard Browning and comprising Shaikh Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Michael Braidwood and Tim Doyne, were the one with the lowest score among all teams with a handicap average of 6.0 or more.

Braidwood said: "It was an unexpected win as we felt as a team that we hadn't taken all of our chances. However, our team did play well with good camadarie which always helps in team games like Texas scramble.

"The course was lovely to play and we were fortunate enough to play on Thursday morning when the wind was not blowing too hard."

In second overall was the Chevron 2 team of Ed Manning, Ross Holzle, Sufian Shtayyeh and Kalon Degenhardt while in overall third place was 2 Connect team of Rick Hillson, David Monson, David Wales and David Smith.

Following the awards ceremony, AMH chief executive officer Dr Paul Armerding said: "It gave me great pleasure to give out the awards and the opportunity to thank His Majesty King Hamad for his generosity in allowing the golf tournament to take place on his private golf course."
