Gulf Weekly Education Ministry in key partnership

Furthering its commitment to transforming Bahrain into a knowledge-based society the Ministry of Education has signed a Partners in Learning agreement with Microsoft Bahrain.

The signing of the agreement is driven by the need for technology education and infrastructure in Bahrain as the programme recognises the educational value of technology in schools and is designed to foster digital inclusion.

Under the Partners in Learning initiative, the Ministry of Education will receive technology training, tailored curriculum development, access to the latest technologies and the ability to empower schools to raise the levels of ICT literacy. It also enables innovative teaching with the aim of bridging the digital divide.

"Microsoft is honoured to renew its partnership with the Ministry of Education in the kingdom as we remain committed to socio-economic development and accelerating the evolution of a knowledge-based society", said Badea Esbai, country manager, Microsoft Bahrain.

"We commend the ministry's ambitious vision of using technology to improve education and enhance IT skills development that will enable citizens to compete in today's global economy. Since its inception in 2003, Microsoft's Partners in Learning Programme, together with the Ministry of Education has had a very positive impact on the education sector in the country by using ICT as a tool to empower students and teachers and transform education."

Commenting on the agreement, Shaikh Hisham bin Abdul Aziz Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for resources and services, said: "The agreement with Microsoft comes in line with improving the standard of education by using the best tools available to develop education and training. That will help transform Bahrain into a successful knowledge-based society. Putting technology to work for people throughout the country will enable us to strengthen our economy and create greater opportunities for young people to fulfil their dreams. We value Microsoft's support as we take positive steps towards becoming a truly digital society."
