A security scare took place at an expat compound near Budaiya after a child ran home in distress after being approached by two men in a van delivering food.

Letters from the owner of the upmarket Miami Park compound have been sent to tenants this week explaining the background to the recent incident which police were called to investigate.

The eight-year-old schoolboy was frightened when approached by two strangers in a van near the children's play area.

The men were from Fakhruddin Restaurant and according to its owner Wael Farayaeen they were trying to find the recently relocated Bizzi Beez children's play facility close-by to deliver a birthday food order. "It was simply a mistake," he said.

Residents alerted the compound's management raising their concerns over strangers being allowed near their homes and say security has tightened in recent days.

The identity of the restaurant's vehicle was captured on CCTV and the police alerted.

A Lebanese employee and his Indian colleague were later interviewed by officers and explained that they had offered sweets to some children in the playground and "did not mean" to scare them, according to a letter sent to tenants.

After a thorough investigation the police have closed the case as no crime had been committed.
