Bahrain students are currently in the UK competing in the 'F1 in Schools World Championships 2009'.

The results of which will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London tomorrow evening.

Year-13 students, Karishma Joseph, Rhea Lobo, Jean-Clive Bailey, Liam Appleton, Matthew Anthony and Aizat Sultan of 'Team EP1C' from St Christopher's School are the very first challengers from the kingdom to take part.

They are racing against over 30 teams from 17 countries in the hope of bringing home the Bernie Ecclestone World Championship Trophy and the chance to earn Automotive and Motorsport Engineering scholarships to City University London.

Head of the school's design and technology, Simon Jones, said: "Two identical cars have been prepared, painted in high gloss blue livery with Gulf Air and Bahrain International Circuit (our sponsors) logos proudly displayed."

Formula One in Schools Technology Challenge is a multi-disciplinary challenge where students in teams have had to research, design and manufacture a racing car out of a block of balsa wood with 220mm x 65mm x 50mm dimensions. The focus of the event is the time trials, with the teams racing their own cars on a specially designed 20 metre track to test their speed.

Other teams from the Gulf taking part are Team Veludicrous from Dubai College and Neon from Oman.
