Despite stormy weather motor sport enthusiasts and families enjoyed all the fun and games that Speed Weekend Bahrain had to offer.

To keep visitors entertained an array of off-track carnival entertainment was staged around the circuit.

Although the rain kept many people away, organisers say the event attracted thousands of people of all ages who enjoyed the variety of games and stalls including face painting, a miniature train ride, bouncing castle and a performance by one of Bahrain's favourite dance crews, the Magnetics.

Clowns and stilt-walkers strutted around the paddock area too and were joined by children's favourite purple dinosaur, Barney.

Fans were also treated to a colourful parade of Harley Davidson motorbikes that roared around the 5.412km Grand Prix circuit.

Tom Stein, 37, a management consultant from Saar, brought his three-year-old twins Benson and William, to enjoy the activities. He said: "I think the more events they organise to cater for families and kids the BIC will prosper in the long run. Our twins had a great time."

Captain of the Bahrain royal show jumping team and National Day show jumping champion, Sami Ghazwan, 38, also brought his boys to the races.

He said: "My five-year-old twins Mohammed and Abdulla woke me up early just to attend Speed Weekend. My boys are very much into motor racing and cars so they insisted on coming down."
