Two separate appeals surrounding the custody battle of St Christopher's School pupil Adam Jones were heard before new judges in Qatari courts in recent days.
After months of legal wrangling, a judge has ordered Adam, 10, and his 77-year-old grandmother, Mariam Al Madhaiki to appear before him on February 11.
Custody of the child was been granted to his grandmother after he was allegedly snatched from his mother, Rebecca Jones, on a visit to her late ex-husband's family in Qatar after she was tricked into signing a set of Arabic legal papers.
Rebecca, 43, said: "This is the first time that something positive has come out of the courtroom. The judge will speak to Adam alone in his chambers on the day. Adam is desperate to come home to Bahrain and is not doing very well. I hope the judge sees both sides of the story when he meets Adam."
In another appeal regarding visitation rights, the judge will resume a hearing on February 3. Rebecca is seeking more frequent visits to Adam, above, regular phone contact and permission to take him out of his uncle's house while his uncle, Fahad Al Madhaiki, wants the court to consider reducing Rebecca's contact with her son.
At present, Rebecca is only allowed to meet Adam twice weekly under police supervision and is not allowed to speak to him on the phone. Adam is being kept at his uncle's home and is not allowed out.
She said: "Adam has neither attended school since October nor has had any kind of tutoring at home. He is just wiling away his time with a play station. It is very hard not to be angry as I feel I have no rights as a mother and that no one cares about my son's welfare."
Meanwhile, the Jones' family have had to move home in Bahrain to a cheaper property to save money as the ordeal is taking a toll on them both financially and emotionally.
Friends of the family living in Bahrain have rallied around and are organising fundraising efforts to help the Jones' pull through the crisis. Rebecca's husband Barrie, 43, and their four-year-old daughter, Alex, who also attends St Christopher' s School in Saar have stayed in Bahrain as Rebecca continues her battle in Qatar to bring Adam back home.
The Facebook group set up by Briton, Sharon Haji and her Bahraini husband, Ali Haji have amassed almost 10,000 members all demanding Adam's return.
A GulfWeekly petition has been handed over to 10 Downing Street while other petitions have been sent to various political leaders including the wife of Qatari Amir Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Shaikha Moza's office.
A DVD highlighting Adam's plight has been made by former award-winning Hollywood director and general manager of KSDi, Rick Beeman, to take Adam's ongoing bitter custody battle to a wider audience.
