Sailing ace Sami Al Kooheji, sponsored by Air Arabia, BMI Bank and Audi Bahrain, finished racing in Doha last week in the Sail the Gulf Championship.
The event was the first on his 2010 Asian Games campaign dubbed the 2010 Air Arabia Sailing Adventure which was exclusively reported in GulfWeekly.
Sail the Gulf regatta which has been run successfully for 18 years had over 100 sailors competing from five GCC countries as well as Egypt, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, India, Malasiya, Iran, Pakistan, France, Germany, South Africa, Russia, Kazakhstan and the UK.
"It was a difficult regatta to start racing in. The conditions were very tough with light winds and shifty winds all week. There were also lots of top sailors attending. I had a rusty start on the first two days but then on the final two I really picked up the pace and brought in some top three results," said Sami.
"I'm very happy with Sami's first performance. He has matured so much with his sailing. Given his position and time away from the boat he has improved incredibly in just one event and I'm sure we're going to see great things to come from him," said coach Kacem Ben Jemia.
Sami's next event on his 2010 Asian Games campaign will see him race this week in Abu Dhabi on Friday and Saturday for the GCC Cup.
His campaign is supported by Sail Bahrain, Team Pindar, GAC, the BMSA and Think Pink.
