BAHRAIN'S cup winning Sharks are hoping for more glory in this weekend's Dubai ice-hockey tournament after claiming the Doha crown in their last venture across the Gulf.

Established in 2009, the eclectic team is made up of five Bahrainis, four Canadians and two Americans with ages ranging between 24 and 40.

They train at the Funland ice skating rink twice a week between 8:30pm and 10:30pm on Sundays and Tuesdays.

The Sharks have improved beyond recognition in the past 12 months and the coveted Doha 2010 Desert Cup sits proudly in their trophy cabinet.

Team captain Tamer Fakhro said: "We were undefeated bringing home the cup. We have high hopes for this weekend's Dubai Mighty Camels Ice Hockey Cup 2010 tournament as we have a strong team and are aiming to bring back another prize.

"We set off tomorrow and our aim is to build on our success and create a Bahraini National ice hockey team that can proudly represent our country regionally and internationally."

The Sharks smashed a total of 24 goals in the Doha tournament with Eric Jansen notching 10 of them. The other scorers were Darcy Webster with five, Tamer Fakhro with three, Salman Sulaybeekh, Hasan Habeb and Salman Thawadi each notching a brace. Fakhro made the wining strike that secured the cup with a 2-1 victory over Qatari Raiders.
