A TEAM of 11 school students are attempting to either cycle, row, run or swim the distance from the Bahrain capital of Manama to Kochi (formerly Cochin) in the south Indian state of Kerala.
In July, the St Christopher's School pupils will be setting off on a community service trip with World Challenge which provides educational expeditions in the developing world to teach life skills and expand minds outside the classroom.
The community service aspect will last for five days and they involve renovating and assisting in the construction of an orphanage and rural village school.
The distance to India is 3,245km from Bahrain. They have divided the distance between the team and their accompanying teacher, Richard Dixon-Clarke, and each person will complete a portion of the distance ... 270km each.
Pupil Puna Harriet Hanson-Singh, 16, said: "The money raised from this sponsored row/cycle/run/swim (and even rollerblade!) will go towards the cost of building materials and equipment and to enable the students to improve the conditions in which children live and learn."
A World Challenge spokesman added: "Our student travel itineraries foster team spirit and leadership skills."
