ERNIE Els, designer of the long-awaited golf course being built at Durrat, has been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

The 'Big Easy' (as he is known due to his effortless swing) has amassed 62 titles around the world, including two US Open and one British Open titles.

Also inducted were Japanese icon Masashi 'Jumbo' Ozaki who won 110 titles in Japan, two-time major champions Doug Ford and Jock Hutchinson and the late Frank Hutchinson whose innovative work as a producer for CBS Sports set a standard for television coverage.

Having witnessed some wonderful golf at the Royal Golf Club in the Mixed Open this weekend I was amazed at the distances some of the players hit the ball these days. This had me thinking ... I wonder if those hitting the ball have the same thoughts that I do when the ball disappears into the yonder ... how far has it gone? Where did the ball finish? Have I got a good lie?

Well, wonder no more as there is technology being developed in Germany that will banish those thought. In the future you may be able to take out your smartphone (assuming they are allowed on the course) and simply review the shot on the-screen, watching a replay in the palm of your hand.

Scientists have devised small battery-run transmitters for insertion into golf balls that can withstand the impact, even measuring it and determining the level of draw or fade.

This would certainly help golfers, such as the much-missed Krazy Kevin, to find lost balls along the pipes and in the gardens of Riffa Views' residences.
