Bahrain’s ace violinist Raoul D’Souza, 13, wowed the audience and judges but a delay in announcing the star performance at the Emirates International Peace Music Festival in Dubai meant he missed the accolades for a prize-winning performance.

The organisers had to make some last minute changes to the final ceremony to suit the timings of a dignitary. Not knowing the result, his parents had the unenviable choice of picking up the expense of rebooking flights and spending another night in a hotel or returning home as scheduled.

Concert pianist Olga Aoust received the prizes on the schoolboy’s behalf. Don’t worry Raoul, there’ll be plenty more to come, the Whisperer has been assured.
