US senator John McCain will be guest starring on the award-winning NBC comedy Parks and Recreation in the return of the series in September.
NBC confirmed that McCain and his two Senate colleagues, Barbara Boxer and Olympia J Snowe, will make cameo appearances on the fifth season of the TV show.
Parks and Recreation is a mockumentary-style series and stars Amy Poehler, who acts as Leslie Knope, the perky, mid-level bureaucrat in the parks department of Pawnee, Indiana.
The upcoming episode featuring the senator will take place in Washington, DC, where Leslie is elected councilwoman. She ventures outside her hometown and travels to the nation’s capital to visit Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott), who invites her to a cocktail party attended by several high-powered politicians, including Senators Boxer, McCain and Snowe.
This will be McCain’s third appearance on a comedy sitcom. In 2008, when he was a republican presidential nominee, he appeared on Saturday Night Live alongside Tina Fey who was portraying Sarah Palin. He also reappeared on the show in May of the same year.
The episode is scheduled to air as the second episode of the latest season on September 27 in the US. Back-to-back episodes air every Wednesday on OSN Comedy at 7pm.
