The VIVA Junior Series was held last weekend in lovely conditions on the Royal Golf Club’s Wee Monty Golf Course.

Divided into three age categories, this series is designed to promote junior golf in Bahrain and provide youngsters with a competitive golf environment to hone their skills.

In the Under 21 category, Fahad Al Hakam comfortably came out on top with level par score of 27 shots. Runner-up was Abdulla Al Yaqoob who returned a score of 29 shots. This victory has moved Fahad into second place in the Under 21 category VIVA Order of Merit Series with a cumulative 15 points. The leader is Khalifa Daij who has accumulated an impressive 20 points in the series to date.

The Under 16 category is proving to be a tight affair. This renewal saw Fahad Al Yacoob shot a score of 33 shots to again secure an easy victory with Saud Al Sharif back in second place returning 38 shots. The VIVA Order of Merit looks like going down to the wire with Saud leading on 19 cumulative points and Fahad his closest pursuer on 15 cumulative points. Fahad is tied with Nayel Al Borshaid who has also amassed 15 points in the series to date.

The Under 12 category is a different proposition. Nine-year-old ‘ Wee Wonder’ Taimur Malik produced another stunning performance shooting 29 shots and has won every round of the series to date. His closest rival, Sarah Alejandro, achieved a score of 42 shots. Taimur now has an unassailable lead of 75 cumulative points followed by Sarah on 21 points.

Director of golf Paul Crowe said: “It is wonderful to see these up and coming golfers take part every week. They practice hard for the event and there is a core of some golfers who will be extremely good in the future.

“We extend our gratitude to VIVA for their sponsorship of this event.”
