Sports-loving Jason Mejia, will be stepping out in GulfWeekly’s colours on Friday as he displays his athletic prowess in a race for a good cause.
The 31-year-old from Adliya, has been training hard for the 2013 Autism Biathlon in support of Alia for Early Intervention, a centre for children with behaviour and communication disorders.
The main event, staged at Amwaj Marina in Amwaj Islands, will start at 3pm and include a 600-metre swim and 5km run.
He said: “I am excited to be taking part in this biathlon as it’s for such a good cause. I hope many others will come out to participate.
“It’s not about winning or losing, the real winners will be the ones who benefit from the funds raised.”
The event, supported by this newspaper, will include the following categories, the Alosra Autism Biathlon, the Alosra Adult Try a Bi, Alosra Junior Try a Bi and the Alosra Walk-a-thon.
The adult Try a Bi is for 16 years and above taking part in a 200-metre swim and 3km run. The junior event is for youngsters aged 12 and above competing in the 200-metre swim and 3km run. The 4km walkathon is for participants aged 11 and above.
There will also be a bazaar on the day offering an array of products and accessories with entertainment also on hand.
