Gulf Weekly Yoon triumphs in The Open

Club member Jung Kyung Yoon, pictured right, narrowly won the Royal Golf Club’s version of The Open with a nett score of 214.

Each competitor drew the name of one of the tour golfers playing The Open Championship at the Royal Liverpool from a hat prior to teeing off in the annual tournament, then their nett score was added to the gross score of their Open ‘partners’ Thursday and Friday rounds at Hoylake to give an aggregate score overall.

Yoon’s nett 72 was added to her ‘partner’, Englishman Justin Rose’s scores of 72 in round one and 70 in round two to give a total of 214.

Second place went to Paddy Gallagher who drew Robert Karlsson as his playing partner, adding his scores of 69 and 71 to Gallagher’s 75 for a total of 215. Third place went to Saud Al Sharif who shot a nett 73 which was added to Graeme McDowell’s rounds of 74 and 69 for a total of 216.

“This is a fun format for the players to compete in as they do not know how their professional will do,” saidd Sohail Singh, the club’s tournament co-ordinator. “It was great to see over 50 golfers competing despite the hot weather.”
