Peter O’Brien maintained his cool to overcome high winds and lower than normal temperatures to win the Airmech Medal competition, hosted by Awali Golf Club, on Friday.
O’Brien managed to ignore the distracting conditions better than others and returned to the warmth of the clubhouse to be the overall winner with gross 74.
The competition, being played for the 34th occasion, saw a field of more than 90 players wrapped up in extra layers on the course, as well as a packed clubhouse for the post-golf formalities.
Master of ceremonies and Club Captain Abdul Elah Fakhroo hailed the efforts of course member Peter Rogers and the grounds staff for ensuring the greens were in playable condition despite the gales on the day before the competition.
Prizes were presented by sponsor Airmech’s general manager Omar Al Sinan, assisted by tournament director Richard Loker.
