Venus have extended their lead at the top of the GulfWeekly Bahrain Ladies Football League and put a huge dent in Seef’s title ambitions.
It took the team only eight minutes, with Hana Aburous scoring on her return, for Venus to take the lead in a bruising encounter. Seef got themselves back into the game five minutes later with a strike by Suha Faiz but Venus took control and regained their lead with Aburous bagging her brace.
The second half proved to be an even affair with both teams creating opportunities but in the end Venus held on to secure all three points.
Now Venus sit proudly on 12 points, one point ahead of Arsenal Ladies. With two games in hand, it would really take a major banana skin now for Venus to slip up.
However, Arsenal Ladies, who are determined to wait in the wings for them to falter, gained three points with a 3-2 win over Joga.
It wasn’t plain sailing though as Arsenal once again conceded a goal within the first few minutes to Ashwan Ebrahim.
Eventually, Arsenal Ladies forced an equaliser five minutes before the break with a goal from Alex Ziegler. Joga took the lead again following a deflected free kick and continued to create chances.
Eleni Tsappis, however, had other ideas after being the unfortunate player to get in the way of the deflected free kick. She was on a mission to make up for it and grabbed a goal back.
Neither team looked like scoring a winner despite Arsenal’s heavy possession in the last few minutes until a goalmouth scrabble resulted in Ziegler securing her second of the game and Arsenal’s third.
This week Venus take on Seef again and RCSI continue to look for their first win of the campaign against third-placed Arsenal U21s.
