AFTER two days of intense try-outs, the 21 aspiring young footballers – 17 boys and four girls – have been selected to travel and experience a week of training at Manchester United Soccer Schools’ (MUSS) Carrington grounds ... and there’s one slot still available.
The 2015 VIVA MUSS programme will give these chosen children the opportunity to train the ‘United Way’ just as professional players during a summer vacation of a lifetime in England.
Marking the fifth year of the initiative, the telecom company is offering one more chance for a footballer to become a part of the elite squad of players to train in the UK.
VIVA is looking for a 22nd player to train at MUSS through an online competition, to become Bahrain’s first acclaimed ‘trickster’.
All football-loving enthusiasts between the ages of 12 to 15 simply need to record and share a video of them doing freestyle football tricks by uploading it by Saturday on Instagram and tagging #VIVAMUSS15 and @VIVA_BH.
The try-outs, which took place on April 24-25 at Riffa Views International School’s soccer pitches, as featured in last week’s GulfWeekly, attracted hundreds of youngsters showing off their footballing talents. They were evaluated not just on their football skills, but also on their sportsmanship and attitude.
Mathew Johnson, one of the UEFA-qualified MUSS coaches who travelled to the kingdom, said: “We spotted some amazing footballers. It was a tough job to select the players given all the outstanding talent we witnessed. We look forward to having these footballers in Manchester to train with us.”
