Bahraini Hamad Mubarak was crowned the Royal Golf Club’s Scratch Champion 2015 after beating off a strong challenge from last year’s champion, Sam Hobday.

Hobday had a four-shot lead after the first round of the annual tournament and led the field through the majority of the final day. However, a birdie on the 18th by Mubarak was just enough for him to steal the title on countback after both players achieved a two-round gross total of 149.

There was also a battle for third place after three players achieved the same two-day gross score of 151. Abdulla Al Hakam was awarded third place on countback, pushing his son, Sultan Al Hakam into fourth and fellow Bahraini Nasser Yaqoob into fifth place.

Hobday achieved the best score on day one of the competition, a three under par 69. Three players achieved the best day two score of three over par 75 – Rob Lane, Mubarak and Al Hakam.

Results: 1st Hamad Mubarak (74+75=149 c/b), 2nd Sam Hobday (69+80=149), 3rd Abdulla Al Hakam (76+75=151 c/b), 4th Sultan Al Hakam (75+76=151 c/b), 5th Nasser Yaqoob (73+78=151). 2s Club: Rob Lane.
