Yousif Majid narrowly won category one of the Royal Golf Club’s annual Captains’ Drive-in Tournament with a score of 36 stableford points.
Peter O’Brien was runner-up with 35 points. Arun Varma clinched first place in the second category of the competition with 35 points and Naeem Ulla Khan came second with 34 points. Jamie Bowen topped category three with 38 points and Sam Morrison was runner-up with 35.
More than 55 members competed in the Individual Stableford tournament which is held annually to mark the official start of the new tenure of the club’s Captains.
This year Jason Smith will be representing the golfing gents while Karin Lutz represents the ladies. Both captains will act as a liaison between the club’s management and the members and will also stage fundraising events throughout the year for their chosen charities.
The two captains made their official drives off the 10th tee and competitors had the chance to buy a flag in advance and use it to mark where they thought the captains’ drives would land. The money raised from the flag sales will go to charities.
Arun Varma also took first place in the annual Past Captains’ Quaich which was played in tandem with the Captains’ Drive-in. Five former captains of the Royal Golf Club battled it out for the illustrious Captains’ Quaich trophy and annual bragging rights.
