Leaning heavily on their walking sticks, more than 45 of Awali Golf Club’s ‘aging’ members made their way round 18 holes for the annual Seniors Tournament on Saturday.
In spite of their advancing years, these spritely players showed they had lost none of the skills of their youth with top quality golf combined with a creditable speed of play. The latter perhaps was more due to the anticipation of the full roast lunch awaiting them at the clubhouse.
Onny Martin, capitalising on his recent high scores in the weekly Scuds and Wackers competitions, produced his ‘senior moment’ at the right time with a net score of 65.
Proving that they had still had depth and accuracy, six of the players managed to hole their balls in just two strokes on various greens.
Captain Bill Scarth, with his usual wit and repartee, presented the prizes before Onny Martin was unceremoniously put back into his wheelchair with his walking stick and removed from the club.
