‘Internetainers’ is a term coined by filmmakers Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal, who have used the internet to find fame and fortune by uploading comic sketches and talk shows.
Having recently notched nine million subscribers, they have started their ninth season of their insanely popular YouTube channel Good Mythical Morning.
“We were friends right from the start,” said Link. “You know, looking back, you can see that you were wired to be an entertainer. Every opportunity there was to get in front of a group, Rhett and I, said: ‘Yeah, let’s do a rap song!’”
Good Mythical Morning just received a nomination for the Steamy Awards and their studio has recently been upgraded to match their success.
The old-fashioned way for entertainers to make the grade was to launch an act in front of an audience of 100 people and slowly build a fan base. Nowadays, being funded by a sponsor and having funny or interested content posted online is exactly how people are discovered.
Link and Rhett have proven that ‘Internetaining’ is a real job too. That’s right, they get paid for posting videos online.
There are thousands of internetainers too who have found financial success through YouTube, such as Pewdiepie who has a net worth of millions from his job on the streaming site. The internet is the biggest stage in the world … you just have to be lucky enough to be spotted.
