Families and friends will be able to enjoy a series of workshops, activities and performances highlighting the kingdom’s heritage and traditional crafts in Manama Suq at the end of this month in a bid to promote tourism.

The  10-day ‘Road to Manama’ event is being organised by the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) from September 22 to October 1 to showcase one of Bahrain’s most significant tourist destinations and oldest commercial markets that emphasises the role of historical and cultural heritage in attracting tourists.

The event is targeting different age groups of children and young adults to ingrain them with Bahraini national heritage information while also connecting them to the professions of their ancestors that once formed the foundations of the island’s economic prosperity, according to BTEA chief executive Dr Nasser Qaedi.

“It will also introduce them to the ancient cultural heritage of the market by taking them on a tour through its various corners and roads, such as Manama’s ancillary marketplaces, the blacksmiths market and others,” he said.

“The event will also offer different Bahraini-focused seminars, designed to help participants uncover their skills and talents, filling their time with practical knowledge and abilities in a variety of disciplines.”

There will be free public events such as traditional Bahraini games, musical performances, children’s storytelling and more to keep residents and tourists entertained. There will be a puppet show taking place from September 22-24 too, in conjunction with neighbouring Saudi National Day celebrations.

This is not the first time that the BTEA has organised events in Manama Suq as the authority recently staged the ‘Manama Gold Festival’ and a popular fashion show.

Dr Nasser revealed that the authority was in the process of organising two future tourism events in Manama Suq in November and December – an outdoor cinema event and a design competition.

The authority is also cooperating with the Kanoo family to promote a Family Museum in the suq area.
