Desert challenge

I have been fortunate to travel the world playing golf and the great thing is that no two courses are the same. In one country you could be playing next to the ocean and in another in the mountains, with each course offering a unique challenge.

Here in Bahrain the challenge you will face at some point is how to play out of the desert that surrounds the manicured grass. It is a place you don’t expect to be, but in this game it is best to prepare for the unexpected!
* The number one key to playing out of the desert is to contact the ball first before hitting the ground. Therefore place the ball further back in your stance. Moving the ball back will de-loft the club, so allow for a lower than normal flight.
* Take a slightly wider stance with your weight favouring your front foot.
* Hold half-an-inch further down on the club and swing with a balanced, smooth tempo.
* Know your limitations! The object of the shot is to get the ball back in play, so don’t be too ambitious with the shot in hand.
