A special honouring ceremony has been held at the Bahrain Mobility International premises in Isa Town to thank all the sponsors of the inaugural Shaikh Faisal bin Hamad Memorial Trophy for their support.
The golf tournament, which was held in April at His Majesty King Hamad’s golf course in Safriya, commemorated the tragic death of his son, Shaikh Faisal, in a car accident last year.
Over BD51,000 was raised through the event and all proceeds were donated to BMI, a charity of which Shaikh Faisal was a strong supporter.
The honouring ceremony was patronised by Saleh Isa Bin Hindi, adviser for youth and sports to King Hamad. Also present were Muneera Bin Hindi, president of BMI; Dreena Rogers, liaison officer for BMI and Richard BroWning, CEO of Riffa Views, the title sponsor.
“On behalf of everyone at BMII, I would like to express my enormous gratitude to all the sponsors for their very generous support, said Ms Bin Hindi. “Part of the funds has already been used to purchase two buses which are used to transport our disabled patrons to and from the centre.
“We also plan to develop gardens here at the centre and renew our recreation facilities to include a swimming pool for physiotherapy exercises. We also hope to improve the sports amenities available to the disabled people of Bahrain.
“I am delighted to announce that His Majesty King Hamad has given his permission for the tournament to be held on his private golf course again next year.
“The event will be held in February and the management of Riffa Views have confirmed that they will be the title sponsor for the second year running.
“Our target for 2008 is to raise a further BD75,000 for Bahrain Mobility International so we look forward to the continuing support of this year’s sponsors as well as to welcoming further sponsors on board for this very worthwhile cause.”
