Bahrain's ace racer Hamad Al Fardan has set his sights on achieving his Formula One dream of becoming the first Arab F1 driver by 2010.

The Gulf Finance House team driver Hamad met with supporters and members of the Press on Monday night at La Vie CafŽ in Budaiya to thank them for backing his efforts during a successful season in F3 in the UK.

Hamad said: " I hope to make you all proud."

The Bahraini is now competing in the F3 Asia Cup and has already notched 19 podium finishes.

Hamad, from Hamad Town, told GulfWeekly that his new plans for 2008 were already in motion. He said: "By taking part in the F3 Asia and Euro Cup in 2008, and then GP2 Asia and Europe in 2009, we will be at the proper level to participate in Formula One by 2010."

His father and GFH team manager, Ahmed Al Fardan, added: "By completing this plan I believe that Hamad will be ready for F1. I truly believe that without GFH's backing none of this could have been possible and the support from the press and from the people of Bahrain has been unbelievable. I believe that Bahrain is behind us 100 per cent."

Ahmed was one of the Middle East's most illustrious rally drivers.
