Saar school-run ordeal for mums

THERE was further school-run misery for parents driving their children to schools and nurseries in the Saar area this week as part of Saar Avenue was closed for major sewer works.

Cars approaching the Alosra roundabout have to continue along Budaiya Highway to Diraz and can only join Saar Avenue after being redirected along a side road behind the Saar Mosque and past the entrances to two residential compounds.

One bemused mother-of-three, who asked not to be named, was taking her children to school sites in both Saar and Isa Town, and said she had set off from home 30-minutes earlier than normal but was still running late.

"The frustrating thing is that throughout the summer the roads have been fine and now that schools are back it's a nightmare.

"I appreciate that important works need to be carried out but the timing is something-else!"

New sewers are being constructed in the Saar area by the Ministry of Works and Housing Sanitary Engineering Affairs Department.

Saar Avenue is used by many parents taking their children to St Christopher's junior and infants' site, Budiaya Pre-School, the British Preparatory School and Al Mahd Day Boarding School.

As reported in GulfWeekly, major road works and changes to strategic junctions and roundabouts are also taking place around Isa Town close to many of the island's secondary schools.
