The team of Sara Axtell, Gill Perras, Evelyn Sword and Cass Winton clinched victory in the fifth annual Think Pink Ladies Charity Golf Day played at the Royal Golf Club at Riffa Views.

The foursome won first prize in the Texas Scramble tournament with a net score of 61.2 while the team of Emma Boyd, Karen Lutz, Evelyn Hug and Soy Butler came in second with net 62.

The event was a huge success once again this year with around BD9,000 being raised for the charity. Experienced golfers competed in the 18-hole competition on the Royal Golf Club's Montgomerie championship course.

Ladies with higher handicaps had the option to play a 9-hole scramble on the club's Wee Monty par 3 academy course and the winners were Karen Van Mastright, Ade Holstege, Antoinette De Windt and Valerie Lim with a team score of 30.

"All the ladies had a fantastic time. I think they derive as much enjoyment from decorating their golf carts beforehand as they do from the golf!" said Phil Jones, the Royal Golf Club's director of golf operations. "Nearly 70 ladies took part in the tournament on the championship course and a further 16 played on the academy course. To make the tournament more exciting, sponsors provided a number of side contest prizes including one for the best dressed golf cart."

"Everyone enjoyed themselves and we were all delighted to hear how much the event has raised for Think Pink," said Sara Thompson, the Royal Golf Club's Lady Captain.

"We were hoping to raise more than last year's total of BD8,500," explained Michael Braidwood, the club's general manager.

"We've managed BD9,000 already and the final men's event has not been added yet. This fantastic result shows how committed organisations in Bahrain are to helping raise awareness of breast cancer."

The event was rounded off with a prize-giving ceremony and lunch in the club's Majlis forum building which was draped in a huge pink ribbon.

Hole sponsors: Ithmaar Bank, Harley Davidson, Aer Rianta, Hempel Paints, Mercure, BMI, Prime Media International, Seef Dental, African & Eastern, Balmoral Services WLL, Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park.

Lunch sponsor: Bahrain International Circuit.
