The Bahrain Welsh Society will hold a traditional festive carol sing-along followed by a full Christmas dinner and festive disco at Candles in the Dilmun Club on December 8. Doors open at 7.30pm. Albareh Art Gallery in Adliya will present 'Birds' - a collective exhibition by a group of sculptors from December 12 at 7pm to January 2. Curated by Hayfa AlJishi and artist Ahmed Al Bahrani, this show will gather major sculptors from Bahrain, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, France and Japan, to participate in this unique concept, which centres on the theme of Birds. The participating artists are Ahmad Al Bahrani (Iraq), Hitoshi Tanaka (Japan), Jamal Abdulrahim (Bahrain), Samer Tabbaa (Jordan), Ali Nori (Iraq), Jivko (France), Mostafa Ali (Syria), Nabil Basbous (Lebanon), Khalil Al Hashimi (Bahrain), Nevine Farghaly (Egypt), Nedim Kufi (Iraq). Albareh Art Gallery is open Saturday to Thursday, from 10am - 8pm.

The Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam International Short Film Festival will be held at the club's premises in Segaiya on December 17 and 18. Amateur and professional filmmakers as well as aspiring student filmmakers will participate during the event.

A jury, made up of renowned artists, critics, writers, filmmakers and educators will select the award-winning films including well-known Indian film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan.

The festival is being organised as part of the Bahrain National Day Celebrations.

Categories include Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor Male and Best Actor Female. A BKSISFF special Young Filmmaker's Prize will also be awarded to the Outstanding film in the Young Filmmaker's Showcase (projects by students ages 13 to 18).

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) launched its second annual art competition linking it to 'online safety' with the aim to inspire safe and responsible use and behaviour of the internet by children.

Students can submit up to three artworks in any form of painting, drawing, graphics design and photography, or video and animation. There will be three winners in each category, one for each, will be recognised with cash prizes from BD250 - BD1,000. The deadline for submitting artworks is on March 31, 2011.
