Gulf Weekly Irish eyes are smiling!

TODAY is St Patrick's Day and word is out that a mischievous magical leprechaun is descending on the kingdom and is bringing along his pot of gold for everyone to share at the end of the rainbow.

GulfWeekly photographer Jayson de Leon believes he captured an image of the creature in Irish mythology splashing around in the green watered fountains at the new Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI) campus in Busaiteen.

The leprechaun is said to be a solitary creature that enjoys practical jokes. No-one is sure whether he will be joining other members of the Irish community in Bahrain gathering at the RSCI for a cup of tea and cupcakes with green icing to commemorate the traditional day of celebration across the Emerald Isle ... and wherever the Irish happen to be.

Mysteriously staff and students found their desks adorned with shamrock - a lucky three-leafed white clover today.

Communications department officer Julie Sprakel said: "This is a fun event and it is just about highlighting that we are an Irish university.

"More than 60 to 70 per cent of the lecturers here are Irish. It's a bit of a giggle - just because it's a university doesn't mean we have to be serious all the time!"

The facility, established in 2004, has around 800 students of 32 different nationalities and is committed to providing healthcare education to world class standards. The first batch of students will graduate in June after six years of training.
