Young artist Maryam Alsindi has become the bird woman of Bahrain with her awesome collection of creations inspired by her feathered friends.
There are more than wings beneath her feet as sales of her artwork have soared from a gallery into the homes of many admirers.
Her first exhibition was recently staged at the Court Yard in Hamala and the 24-year-old says she has been thrilled with the response she received.
Fittingly, the exhibition was entitled 'Lady Bird' and featured 14 oil paintings. Maryam, from Busaiteen, said: "They tell a story of how I see people around me and the similarities I see between women - in particular with birds.
"I believe that there is a bird inside every woman and its characteristics are revealed in some way or the other, for instance, in her walk, her look or her personality. That is what I have tried to translate through my brush on to the canvas."
Maryam's artistic inspiration started at an early age as she was born into a household 'enriched with oil paintings and sculptures'.
She said: "The smell of oil paint and the images of my father's large jar of dirty brushes are in almost every memory of my childhood."
She pursued a bachelor's degree in arts from the University of Bahrain for four years and ever since 200?, has been working on making a mark in the kingdom's art scene.
She says: "My life is my masterpiece and every significant event around me just adds a stroke to it."
Maryam defines her style of art as modern explaining that her favourite artists are Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and Paul CŽzanne. She hopes to become a successful artist and pioneer new artistic ideas.
To help boost her confidence she sold three paintings, including one which was snapped up for BD1,200 which featured a girl with pink lips and two feathers.
